Chocolate Covered Strawberries

  • 1 pint fresh strawberries
  • 1 cup (200g) dark chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon (15g) shortening (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon (15g) chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon (15g) sprinkles (optional)

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Melt chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave in 30-second increments, stirring between each interval, until smooth.
  2. Wash and Dry strawberries to remove any dirt or moisture that might interfere with the chocolate adhering.
  3. Dip each strawberry into the melted chocolate, coating about 3/4 of the strawberry, using a fork or dipping tool to fully coat the strawberry.
  4. Tap the fork or dipping tool gently against the side of the bowl to remove any excess chocolate, creating a smooth, even coat.
  5. Place the dipped strawberries on a parchment-lined baking sheet or a silicone mat, leaving about 1 inch of space between each strawberry to prevent them from sticking together.
  6. Refrigerate the chocolate-covered strawberries for at least 30 minutes to allow the chocolate to set.
  7. Serve the chocolate-covered strawberries chilled, garnished with any desired toppings, such as chopped nuts or sprinkles, if available.
