Easy Shepherd's Pie Recipe with Ground Beef

A classic shepherd's pie recipe made with ground beef, peas, carrots, and mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cloves of garlic minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Brown the ground beef in a pan over medium-high heat, breaking it up into small pieces, until it is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add frozen peas and carrots to the pan and stir to combine, cooking for an additional 2 minutes.
  4. Season the ground beef mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Transfer the ground beef mixture to a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  6. Spread mashed potatoes over the top of the ground beef mixture, making sure to cover it evenly.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the potatoes are golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
