Homemade Hot Cocoa Recipe

A rich and creamy hot cocoa recipe made with cocoa powder, sugar, milk, and cream.

Main Ingredients
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/3 to 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 cup cream or half-n-half
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Mix all dry ingredients together, including cocoa powder, sugar, and a pinch of salt.
  2. Boil the water in a heavy saucepan.
  3. Dissolve the dry ingredients in the boiling water by whisking over medium heat for about two minutes, keeping it to a simmer.
  4. Add the milk and heat it until it's hot, whisking continually, being careful not to boil.
  5. Remove the mixture from the heat.
  6. Add the cream or half-n-half and the vanilla.
  7. Divide the hot cocoa between four mugs.
  8. Add more cream to cool if needed, or simply wait.
