- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Mix 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of salt in a large bowl.
- Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and mix until combined.
- Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add 1 cup of buttermilk.
- Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon until it forms a shaggy dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 1-2 minutes, until it comes together.
- Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cut a cross in the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
