  • 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 cup cinnamon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup chopped Mexican chocolate tablets (like Ibarra)

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. Melt chocolate and butter in a double boiler, stirring occasionally, until smooth.
  3. Whisk together sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract in a separate bowl.
  4. Combine the melted chocolate mixture with the sugar mixture, whisking until well incorporated.
  5. Add flour, stirring until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 8-inch square baking pan.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool completely in the pan.
  9. Cut into squares and serve.
