  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese

Method

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)
  2. Brown the ground meat in a pan over medium-high heat, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks, until it is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes
  3. Soften the onions and any other aromatics in the pan with the ground meat, cooking until they are translucent, about 3-4 minutes
  4. Add any additional seasonings or spices to the pan and stir to combine, cooking for 1 minute
  5. Spread the cooked ground meat mixture into the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish
  6. Boil diced potatoes in a large pot of salted water until they are tender, about 10-12 minutes
  7. Drain the potatoes and mash them with butter and milk until they are smooth and creamy
  8. Spread the mashed potatoes over the top of the ground meat mixture in the baking dish
  9. Bake the shepherd's pie in the preheated oven until the potatoes are golden brown, about 25-30 minutes
  10. Remove the shepherd's pie from the oven
